Auburn's Johni Broome Brushes Off Morgan Freeman's Handshake Attempt, Quickly Realizes Mistake
At first, Auburn forward Johni Broome appeared to think little of a gesture he made during the No. 16 Tigers’ 91–77 victory over Ole Miss Saturday.
Late in the contest, Broome was standing in the corner of the Rebels’ Sandy and John Black Pavilion court. During a dead ball, a fan sitting courtside reached out and grabbed Broome’s jersey in an apparent attempt to say hello; Broome reacted as any basketball player would, swatting the fan away.
It would normally have been the right thing to do … if that fan had been anyone other than Mississippi-raised film legend Morgan Freeman.
Realizing his error, Broome jogged over to Freeman and apologized.
The instant apology when he realized it was Morgan Freeman😂

After the game, Broome hilariously described the interaction to reporters.
“I thought it was an Ole Miss fan just grabbing my jersey and holding onto me. I got the hand off, then I saw who it was,” Broome said. “I realized it was [Freeman] and was like, ‘Oh my gosh, I’m a big fan, I’m sorry.'”
Broome finished the game with 15 points, nine rebounds, seven assists and the memory of a lifetime.
