The New Orleans Saints were hit with some startling news on the health status of starting quarterback Derek Carr just two weeks prior to the NFL Draft.
According to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, Carr is dealing with an offseason shoulder injury that puts his upcoming 2025 season in jeopardy. The eleven-year veteran is weighing his options on how to resolve the issue with surgery potentially being on the table.
Reportedly, the Saints knew about Carr’s imminent shoulder injury prior to converting his contract into a signing bonus this offseason. The contractual move all but confirmed Carr’s 2025 team status which is now in flux just three days before the team officially meets for offseason workouts.
New Orleans has been projected by many outlets as being the ideal landing spot for a quarterback prospect in the first round. FanDuel Sportsbook has the franchise favored to take Colorado’s Shedeur Sanders with the ninth overall pick while draft insider Todd McShay has the team setting its sights on Ole Miss signal caller Jaxson Dart.
Both prospects spoke with Saints brass during the pre-draft process along with the likes of other quarterback prospects such as Texas’ Quinn Ewers, Miami’s Cam Ward and Louisville’s Tyler Shough. The team also conducted a private workout with Alabama’s Jalen Milroe this week.
