A24 has greenlit the science-fiction horror film “The Backrooms” from filmmaker Kane Parsons. At 19 years old, Parsons is the youngest director in A24 history.

His anthological series debuted in 2022 and has amassed over 190 million views to date. Production on the film is expected to start this summer.

Chernin Entertainment, part of the North Road Company, will co-finance alongside A24. Producers include Atomic Monster, Chernin Entertainment and 21 Laps Entertainment. Shawn Levy, Dan Cohen and Dan Levine are producing for 21 Laps Entertainment and Chris Ferguson for Oddfellows Pictures. Reinsve is best known for Joachim Trier’s comedic romantic drama “The Worst Person in the World,” which was nominated for two Oscars. She’s also worked with A24 on “A Different Man,” starring Sebastian Stan. Reinsve is repped by CAA and Narrative.

A24’s upcoming slate includes Celine Song’s romantic drama “Materialists,” Eva Victor’s Sundance darling “Sorry Baby,” Ari Aster’s Western “Eddington,” Benny Safdie’s MMA-inspired “The Smashing Machine” and Josh Safdie’s ping pong comedy “Marty Supreme.”
