Bitcoin Student Network, Bitcoin Atlantis launch.
On Friday, March 1, Generation Bitcoin founders Ella Hough and Arsh Molu officially launched their Bitcoin Students Network (BSN) at the Bitcoin Atlantis conference in Madeira, Portugal.
They intend to increase and coordinate the global reach, resources, and efforts to get more students involved in Bitcoin. In line with this goal, they were integral to the launch of the Cornell Bitcoin Club and are targeting more locations outside the US.
Additionally, the BSN will help streamline the process of assisting students in launching and scaling bitcoin-focused student-led University clubs through financial assistance and general support.
Mission, Vision, And Structure
The Bitcoin Students Network is set up to be a “one-stop shop” for connecting students around the globe interested in Bitcoin to resources and opportunities to contribute to the space.
Generation Bitcoin Co-founder and Growth Lead Arsh Molu pointed out that the BSN identified a global gap in the resources, knowledge, and support provided to University bitcoin student clubs. He continued to mention that the BSN aims to support these University clubs and “equip students with resources, knowledge, and job opportunities worldwide.”
The BSN has a founding team, student board, and advisory board with stakeholders from the Bitcoin industry to guide them across finance, University outreach, career development, Bitcoin community and club development.
They have outlined a set of core values to guide their operations and ensure the organisation remains focused and in line with Bitcoin’s broader ethos. These include emphasizing freedom through knowledge, first-principles thinking, which encourages forming one’s own opinions and doing research, and low-time preference thinking, which eliminates short-term gratification and promotes long-term thinking.
Moving Forward And Next Steps
Since the official launch earlier this month, the BSN has nodes—an analog for participants on the Bitcoin network they call affiliate clubs—across 12 countries and six continents, totalling over 20 clubs, with plans to continue growing this network, and fostering further collaboration and knowledge sharing between them.
Beyond knowledge, resources, and support, as Generation Bitcoin Co-founder and Project Lead Ella Hough explains, “BSN aims to remove barriers to creating student Bitcoiner communities and strengthen Bitcoin’s Layer 0, the social/human layer”.
Further, the BSN also encourages the participation of industry players, such as Bitcoin companies and other stakeholders, to organise events, financially support and donate resources, engage in mentorship, and share available internship and job opportunities for students.
In a similar light, the BSN has partnered with the Bitcoin Conference to sponsor hundreds of students to attend the world’s largest Bitcoin conference in Nashville from 25 to 27, June, 2024. As stated in the announcement, the partnership aims to “empower students with knowledge and networking opportunities and encourage them to join the conversation”.
Ultimately, the BSN will ensure that students, regardless of their geographic or socio-economic circumstances, have adequate access to resources, job opportunities, and educational material to learn about and contribute to the Bitcoin ecosystem.
