‘Masquerade’ Trailer: Vernon Davis and Hedy Wong Star in Fantasy Thriller
Former NFL star turned actor Vernon Davis (“The Ritual Killer”), Hedy Wong (“Beef”) and Dushaun Thompson (“Hidden Lives”) are set to star in “The Masquerade,” a fantasy-driven thriller from Emmy-nominated director Joslyn Rose Lyons.
Rounding out the ensemble cast are Super Bowl champion Omar Bolden (“The Choices We Make”), Simone Leanora (“Them”), Grammy-nominated artist Ryan Nicole Austin, Steph Curry’s stunt double Court Bivens and celebrity dance choreographer Candice Bolden.
Written and directed by Lyons, “The Masquerade” includes elements of dance and magical realism. Set in a historic ballroom theater during an opulent cocktail party, the film follows a visionary businessman (Thompson) who plans to replace an iconic arts district with a futuristic smart city. His estranged brother (Omar Bolden) and his wife (Candice Bolden), along with the arts commissioner (Leanora), oppose the project, seeing it as a betrayal of the community. As tensions rise, an illusionist (Davis) transports the group through time, revealing the district’s rich history and the consequences of its destruction.
“The Masquerade” premiered at Indie Night Film Festival on April 1 at the Historic Grand Lake Theater in Oakland. It will begin streaming in May on Amazon Prime Video and Apple TV+ through Filmhub.
Davis executive produced the project alongside Lyons, under his Reel 85 Productions banner in association with My Own Backyard Films. Producers are Monica Castro (Outerlands) and Christopher Goodman (Fairyland), with Dominique Mouton (The Lower Bottoms) joining as a Creative Consultant.
Davis said, “I’m excited to bring The Masquerade to audiences, where mystery and dance converge. This project has been an incredible creative journey, and I’m confident that this talented team will propel it to new artistic heights.”
Lyons added, “This film is a meditation on time, memory, and the liminal space between dreams and reality. In The Masquerade, we traverse a world where the surreal and the real collide – where masks conceal not just faces but forgotten truths. It’s a journey through fractured timelines, revealing what is lost when we abandon our identity, and what is found when we dare to reclaim it.”
