Recap of IAC Large School, IAC Small School, MAC softball finals

  • Addison Makowski pitched a perfect game and hit a home run in Deposit-Hancock’s 15-0 MAC final win over Greene.
  • Edison and Union Springs won IAC titles.

Three of New York’s highest-ranked softball teams delivered winning performances May 15 in capturing championships in the Midstate Athletic Conference and Interscholastic Athletic Conference.

The highlight of the three finals was a five-inning perfect game from Addison Makowski in Deposit-Hancock’s 15-0 win over visiting Greene in the MAC championship.

The IAC crowned a pair of familiar champions in a doubleheader at Watkins Glen High School.

Thomas A. Edison rolled to a 17-2 win over Lansing to repeat as Large School champ.

Union Springs won its third Small School title in four years, 4-0, over Tioga Central after losing, 5-4, to the Tigers in last year’s final.

MAC: Deposit-Hancock 15, Greene 0

Makowski added a home run to her perfect game to help Deposit-Hancock, last year’s Class D state champion in New York, to its third MAC title.

Makowski struck out 13 of the 15 batters she faced and went 3-for-4 with three RBIs, adding a double and single.

Sarah Gross went 3-for-4 with an RBI for Deposit-Hancock (16-2). Pagan Macumber was 2-for-3 with three runs and two RBIs; Ivy Tice 2-for-4 with two runs; Victoria Green 2-for-4 with three RBIs; Kadyn Appley 2-for-3; and Olivia Johnston 2-for-4.

Deposit-Hancock is ranked first in Class C by the New York State Sports Writers Association.

IAC Large School: Edison 17, Lansing 2

Aurora Parlo went 3-for-5 with two RBIs and allowed two runs on five hits over five innings to pick up the pitching win for Edison. She struck out six and walked four.

Kailey Ripley was 4-for-5 with three doubles and an RBI for Edison. Rosie Wheeler went 3-for-5 with two RBIs; and Carissa Cowan had a double and three RBIs.

Edison scored seven runs in the fifth to lead 12-0, then tacked on five runs over the final two frames following the game’s third rain delay.

The Spartans (16-3) are ranked fourth in Class B in New York.

IAC Small School: Union Springs 4, Tioga 0

Gracie Chalupnicki tossed a two-hitter as Union Springs improved to 17-0 after scoring two runs in each of the first two innings. She struck out 12 and walked three.

Chalupnicki added a 2-for-3 day at the plate with an RBI.

Kate Kitchcart gave up seven hits and three earned runs for Tioga (12-3) over six innings.

Union Springs is New York’s seventh-ranked Class C team.
