There’s No Indication Stimulus Checks Are on the Way, Despite What You May Hear

There’s no indication that the government is planning to send stimulus checks to Americans, despite what you may hear on social media.

Users on social media platforms TikTok and X are searching for information about stimulus checks of up to $2,000 rumored to be set to come out before the end of the year. It’s unclear where the information came from, but there is no evidence that the government will be sending money to households before the end of the year.

Not the First Time Stimulus Rumors Have Swirled

This is not the first time that rumors have swirled about stimulus checks. Back in March, users on TikTok reportedly posted videos with captions that stated that then-presidential candidate Donald Trump promised stimulus checks for everyone over the age of 18 if he won the election.

There’s also no indication that Trump plans to provide stimulus checks to Americans once he’s in office. It is not mentioned on his platform or the broader Republican agenda linked on his website, and would seem to conflict with a key pillar of Trump’s plan for the White House.

COVID-19 Stimulus Checks Cost Government $814B

Trump has promised to cut government spending and pay off the $35.96 trillion in national debt. In an effort to do so, he has formed an advisory council called the “Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE),” led by supporters Elon Musk and Vivek Ramaswamy.

During Trump’s campaign, Musk said he would like to cut $2 trillion from the federal budget. The three rounds of COVID-19-related stimulus checks cost the U.S. government $814 billion, or nearly 41% of the amount Musk is looking to cut.
