This Home Depot Aisle Is the Best One in the Store

When we asked several designers to name their favorite items to buy at The Home Depot, one answer kept coming up: plants. It might be a bit surprising—they could easily swing by upscale boutique nurseries—but they swear by The Home Depot for their greenery. And it tracks: Any seasoned designer will tell you that no space feels complete without some plants.

So why do the pros gravitate toward this big-box store for their botanical needs? We dug into their answers, and here’s what we found.

The Price and Variety Can’t Be Beat

Interior designers are drawn to The Home Depot’s plant department for both its affordability and versatility. “The Home Depot is a hidden treasure source for beautiful indoor plants and trees at excellent price points,” says Danielle Perdue, founder of DK Home. “If you’re looking to add greenery into your decor and not spend a fortune, this is my go-to.”

She appreciates the wide variety of species available as well, citing fiddle leafs, palms, birds of paradise, and ficus trees as just a few of the types of plants she’s spotted at the store.

Laura Benson, founder of Laura Elizabeth Interiors, agrees. “I always go to The Home Depot because they have the biggest selection of plants by far with the lowest prices,” she says. “I repeat, by FAR.”

The Plants Are Fully Grown—and Look Good!

Sydney Katz, founder of SDK Architecture, is drawn to The Home Depot’s selection of indoor and outdoor plants alike and finds they tie a space together, whether you’re shooting photos of your home or just inviting a few friends over.

“Plants make for a great last-minute addition during install or before a dinner party,” she says. “Incorporating that bit of nature can help to add to or create a sense of ease in a space.”

Ashley Ross, founder of Muse Noir Interiors, also appreciates just how much The Home Depot’s plant section comes in handy prior to a project shoot. She likes picking up a few fully grown fiddle leaf figs, “because who has time for the tree to grow before the photographer arrives?”

Shopping Is Seamless

Benson finds that shopping for plants at The Home Depot is a simple task, as opposed to a daunting one, due to the way the inventory is organized.

“They make it easy for the average Joe to know which section of plants you should be shopping in, depending on what they need to thrive or how much time and attention you’re willing to spend caring for them,” she says.
