This Is Only Soda Alternative I Think Is Worth Drinking, and It’s Finally Back In Stock

On summer’s hottest days, it can feel almost impossible to quench my thirst. Of course, that doesn’t stop me from trying. A cold sip always offers the respite I need from the season’s worst heat and humidity, but soda and juices can be sugary sweet, while sparkling water often lacks flavor. In search of a drink that could bridge the gap, I recently tried Bawi Agua Fresca, and I’m never looking back.

Bawi Agua Fresca is high in flavor but low in sugar — in other words, it’s the Goldilocks of summer beverages. This soda-seltzer hybrid has just the right amount of sweetness, and at $3 a can, it’s quickly become a summer staple in my household.

While I love sparkling water, I often find that the flavors fall flat. When I’ve sought a drink to better stimulate my taste buds in the past, I’d typically turn to the classic fountain drinks I loved as a kid. Recently, though, I can’t seem to stomach those saccharine sodas, so I’ve been in search of an alternative that’ll satisfy my thirst without giving me cavities in the process. I’ve tasted all the popular new sodas with prebiotics, adaptogens, and the like, but I never found one that hit all the right notes. That is, until I discovered Bawi Agua Fresca has.

Aguas frescas are a category of popular Mexican drinks, typically made from water, fruit juice, flowers, grains, or seeds, plus sweetener. Bawi is a ready-to-drink take on aguas frescas, with only 40 calories and 9 grams of sugar per can. The beverage is sweet and flavorful like soda, but light and hydrating like sparkling water.

Bawi offers three flavors: Piña (pineapple), Limón (lime), and Maracuyá (passionfruit). As with most sparkling waters, each flavor has a short, simple ingredient list: water, fruit juice, and organic cane sugar. (In my experience, most “healthier” sodas contain far more ingredients.) The result is a cooling, refreshing beverage I can sip all day, without spiking my blood sugar.

Each pack comes with twelve 12-ounce cans. You can snag individual flavor packs, but since all three flavors are delicious, I recommend grabbing a variety pack.

Bawi aguas frescas combine everything I love about soda and seltzer, all in one delicious sip. I don’t want to put mine down until fall, and you’ll surely feel the same way once you get your hands on a can. Grab your variety pack now for $40 — that’s just $3 a can.
