Toddler Tragically Dies After Freak Accident With Unsecured Mirror — Why His Grieving Mom Is Sharing Her Story

[Warning: Potentially Triggering Content]

What a truly heartbreaking cautionary tale…

Lindsay Dewey, an Idaho mom, loved sharing her family life on social media. But that’s become a mission now that she’s become a grieving mother. She lost her 22-month-old son in a horribly tragic — and devastatingly preventable — accident.

Last month, she first announced her baby boy Reed’s death in a lengthy Instagram Story post. She explained he died in February when a large, unsecured full-length floor mirror fell on him:

“To make a long story short, apparently Reed had one of his suction cup bowls and stuck it on the mirror and was pulling it ‘back and forth’ to pry it off (we’re assuming) and he pulled the mirror down on himself.”

JFC… Oh no…

She went on to explain the mirror, which leaned against the wall, was extremely heavy so she never had any reason to believe her kids could pull it down. But sadly Reed did. She shared the story as a warning to other parents who should make sure their mirrors are safe. Read her full post (below):

In another Story, she detailed the heartbreaking moment she discovered her baby underneath the mirror:

“The second I lifted it up I looked at him to see if he was ok and he was laying there eyes open but not crying and I felt relieved thinking he must’ve been okay just in shock or something …but no… he was not the Reed I knew. Based on how he was acting, I immediately knew something was VERY wrong and that it was serious but never did we expect it to be so serious that he wouldn’t survive it. The mirror hit his head in the most precise way and fractured his skull – obviously causing a severe TBI.[traumatic brain injury]”

Sadly, the young boy, whom Lindsay shares with husband Eric Dewey, passed away.

She went on to restate she’s sharing her story to prevent similar tragedies happening with other families:

“I replay it in my mind too often. We both are still in complete shock that this is what took our baby from us. We’re only sharing this because we don’t want this happening to anybody. A few close people we’ve told literally started naming off items in their house that weren’t anchored, and it hit home for them because they literally could’ve been in our situation.”

This week, Reed’s story has gone viral — and his grieving momma wants to make it clear she didn’t post it to seek out any attention for herself. On Tuesday, she criticized People after they “misconstrued” some of the facts relating to when Reed passed away. See (below):
