The things that make our kitchens feel messy are those items we’re constantly using, because naturally, they get left out a lot. Kitchen utensils are a good example—there’s rarely a time you aren’t using or washing your spatulas, mixing spoons, poultry shears, etc. It’s tempting to have them gathered together in a utensil crock, but those crocks can actually harbor lots of bacteria and make your kitchen look cluttered. So, we came up with a few great kitchen utensil storage ideas that will keep your items handy but still out-of-the-way enough to leave your countertops looking clean.
Hang a Peg Rail

Peg rails are a clear winner in a mudroom, but did you know they work just as well in a kitchen? Hang one on top of your backsplash or directly under your upper cabinets and rest utensils on them. If the utensils have large enough holes where you can hang them directly, great! If not, tie on some twine.
Use a Tension Rod and Hooks

Tension rods: they’re not just for closets! They come in plenty of finishes and also happen to be an aesthetically-pleasing way to store your go-to wooden spoon and oven mitts. Just add some S-hooks and you’re ready to go. Did you know that tension rods can also come in handy when storing bracelets and hoops?
Put Up a Peg Board

Another idea we’ll gladly borrow from a different room in the home. You’ve probably seen these in the garage holding tools, but they work in the kitchen, too! Peg boards are the cheapest, easiest version of custom storage. Just move the dowels around to perfectly fit your go-to pieces. Bonus: you can hang one that’s large enough to also hold your cutting boards!
Repurpose a Magnetic Knife Bar

Knife bars are, yes, your best bet for storing knives (they don’t get as dirty as knife blocks do). But, they are also, obviously, magnets, so they can stash a whole lot of other things too! Use them to hang up your kitchen shears, spatulas, spoons, and even microplanes. If you’re going to keep knives there, just be careful to space out the items so you don’t get nicked.
Upgrade Your Drawers

A lucky few of us have kitchen drawers with built-in storage. For those of us who don’t, drawer organizers are a quick upgrade you can purchase pretty much anywhere. Storing everything in your drawers will keep your countertop and backsplash clear—perfect for those who love minimalism. It also allows you to keep like items together, so you can have a zone for your spatulas and another for your measuring spoons.
