The Mets, playing a split-squad game in Jupiter, Fla., fell to the Miami Marlins, 5-1.

– Tylor Megill, making his final start of the spring, continued to work on his splitter, as he struck out the first batter he faced with the newly developing pitch.
But the fourth inning was a bit of an adventure for Megill, who was charged with three wild pitches in the frame, all on sliders.
Still, it was a pretty good day overall for the tall righty. He went 5.0 innings, allowing three earned runs on three hits. Megill struck out seven Marlins and walked two. Megill finishes spring with a 3.92 ERA.
– The Mets only had a few players in the lineup who are likely to be on the Opening Day roster, but a pair of them combined to bring in the Mets’ first and only run of the game. Zack Short, who is about to play in his first Opening Day as a Met, doubled in the fourth and later came around to score on an Omar Narvaez single to left center.
– Top prospects Drew Gilbert and Ryan Clifford were both in the lineup. Gilbert, batting out of the leadoff spot and playing center field, went 0-for-4, and Clifford also went 0-for-4 with a couple of punchouts.
– Sean Reid-Foley pitched out of the bullpen in this one, but his outing didn’t go as planned. The righty allowed a walk, a single, and a double before being pulled.
Reid-Foley had been dealing with arm fatigue earlier in spring, and this outing probably didn’t help his chances of making the club.

The Mets round out their spring training schedule with a trip to Tampa to play the Yankees on Monday at 1:05 p.m.
