Uber Bubbles Will Take You to Champagne and Back for a Flat Fee

For the first time in my life, I was happy to leave Paris. Actually, I was kind of out of it, lightly snoozing in the back of a Tesla, a crushed water bottle as my impromptu pillow, as my driver Mohamed transported my jet-legged self toward Champagne. The 90-minute drive was smooth and eventually scenic, part of a new Uber experience launching this summer: Uber Bubbles.

Uber Bubbles will take riders from anywhere in Paris to Champagne, for a curated exploration of top Champagne houses before returning to the city. The day trip experience starts with a pickup anywhere in Paris, including the airport, for a roundtrip route through Champagne and back to the city. The experience starts in Épernay at Perrier-Jouët, a classic maison dating back to 1811, with whimsical floral decor rivaling this year’s Met Gala red carpet and a general feminine aesthetic that I’d happily adopt as my entire personality.

At a circular bar inside the Art Nouveau-inspired tasting room, I tasted three cuvées alongside a tasting menu: Plump marinated salmon diced and reassembled as a filet was topped with marigold petals and swirled with lovage oil, paired with Perrier-Jouët’s Blason Rosé. A chicken breast topped with Champagne sauce paired with the Grand Brut, and a strawberry pavlova built with elderflower pavlova was like a spring dream.

Full of edible flowers, I relaxed back into my waiting Uber for a drive down the Avenue de Champagne and a quick tour past the Reims Cathedral. Next up: Maison G.H. Mumm, where a group tour descended into the earthy-scented caves to learn about the region, Champagne making, and of course, tasting some (several) glasses on the patio before returning to the car, which certainly felt more like a privately booked transfer (my bags were safe inside) than your standard Uber.

This Summer, Uber Bubbles will run on Fridays and Saturdays from June 7 to August 17. The experience costs a flat fee of €200 (about $217). Thanks to partnerships with the Champagne houses, the price is all-inclusive, for up to four passengers in the vehicle. That’s a major deal, considering a one-way ride from Paris to Champagne costs much more than $200. Reservations will be bookable 75 days to 24 hours in advance via Uber Reserve, starting on June 1.

With over 15 million visitors expected in Paris this summer, thanks to the Olympics and you know, the lure of a sunny Parisian vacation, a day trip with an already planned itinerary is ideal.  Riders who want to use the trip as an escape from Paris can also opt out of the return ride, check into a hotel in Champagne, or request their Uber Bubbles drop them at Champagne-Ardenne train station and start their own adventure. Alternatively, Disneyland Paris is also on the return route.

“We’ve spent a lot of time thinking about how we can show up in a meaningful way for our customers this summer,” says Laureline Serieys, general manager of Uber France. “We’ve focused on both our presence in Paris, as well as in other popular seasonal destinations, like Épernay and Reims.” Ubers have run in Champagne since 2019, making it easier for visitors and locals to tour the region safely.

Ubber Bubbles’ flat fee includes the cost of multiple wine tastings and lunch.

Uber Bubbles

“Uber Bubbles is the perfect travel product for locals and visitors alike,” says Serieys. “A seamless, affordable, and luxurious day trip from Paris to escape the frenzy and enjoy nearby Champagne, one of the most iconic and beloved regions in France. It’s been exclusively curated for Uber riders and it’s climate conscious.”

All Uber Bubbles vehicles are green, meaning the day trip has no carbon footprint, and drivers are paid full-day fares.

“I am excited to join the Bubbles adventure this summer to enjoy a unique moment with tourists from around the world,” says Mohamed Lamsadda, a Paris-based Uber driver who will drive Uber Bubbles rides this summer. Spoiler: My preview with him was a five-star ride. “My goal is to provide a magical experience for our guests in the Champagne region. I can’t wait to share this journey with riders, offering them a day of memorable discoveries and tastings.”
