US Open Tennis Starts Today—Here’s How Its Record Prize Haul Stacks Up to Other Grand Slams

The US Open is under way, with this year’s competitors vying for the tennis tournament’s largest-ever prize pool of $75 million.

The men’s and women’s singles winners will each take home a cool $3.6 million, up from $3 million last year. Those making first-round exits will receive $100,000, up from $81,500. 

The fourth and final Grand Slam tournament of 2024 boasts the year’s biggest prize for the singles winners.

The Australian Open featured a prize pool of 86.5 million Australian dollars ($58.6 million), 10% more than 2023, with the singles winners each receiving 3.15 million Australian.

The French Open, played on its iconic clay courts, awarded a total of 53.5 million Euros ($59.71 million), including 2.4 million Euros to each singles winner. The total purse at Roland Garros rose nearly 8% year-over-year. 

Wimbledon’s prize fund grew 12% this year to 50 million pounds ($65.94 million), with 2.7 million pounds each for the singles winners.

The 2024 US Open will see the US’ Coco Gauff and Serbia’s Novak Djokovic look to defend their titles, with the women’s and men’s finals scheduled for Sept. 7 and 8, respectively. Gauff won her first match earlier today, while Djokovic will play this evening.
