We Tried Bella Hadid’s Orebella Perfumes

Whenever I walk into any store or find myself browsing online, my first line of business is to beeline for whatever fragrance options are on deck. I’m enchanted by the art of concocting beautiful scents (and the vessels they come in), and I’d be lying if I said my personal collection wasn’t borderline ridiculous. That said, my interest was very piqued when I heard Bella Hadid was developing a new fragrance line—Orebella—and that it aligned with the rising trend of perfumes made specifically for sensitive skin.

Whereas many EDPs are formulated with alcohol, which can be drying and irritating for some skin types, Orebella’s “bi-phase” formula is meant to hydrate and nourish skin. It’s done in a very sophisticated way and presented beautifully—a glamorous departure from plain roller balls or minimalist spray bottles that simply aren’t as pretty to look at.

The first layer uses a proprietary blend of hydrating snow mushroom and botanical oils—including camellia, almond, jojoba, shea, and olive—which helps with scent longevity. (Kinda the same idea as applying lotion to your skin first, then the perfume. Hydrated skin holds onto fragrance for longer). The second layer is where the fragrance comes from, and includes a blend of aromatherapy essential oils and fine fragrance notes. You’re meant to shake the perfume bottle before application to mix up both layers.

On that note, the geode-inspired bottles are gorgeous. They’re made from a thick glass base with a gilded cap, and each fits in the palm of your hand. The bottom is tapered, so it won’t sit upright on a vanity but instead lays flat. Inside you can see the swirling bi-phase formula; the oils catch the light and sparkle a bit. Once shaken, it turns into a creamy color and is ready to apply. The payoff is great, as well. I wasn’t sure what to expect, but the fragrance lingered all day long.

Currently, there are three fragrances to choose from—Window2Soul, Salted Muse, and Blooming Fire—that you can purchase in three different sizes. The 10mL (great for purses) is $35, 50mL (perfect for most cases) is $72, and the 100mL (if you’re a super fan of the fragrance) is $100.

1. Blooming Fire Parfum

If you’re partial to florals, this one’s for you. Perfect for spring and summer, Blooming Fire is pure floral heaven. To me, it smells like sun-warmed jasmine filtered through a salty coastal breeze with a sweet bergamot and cedar base. It’s a sweet fragrance, but in an earthy way versus a candied way.

2. Window2Soul Parfum

Those who appreciate a floral scent but need one with a bit more zing and maturity, this is the way to go. Window2Soul has an inviting freshness to it—like just hopped out of the shower clean skin smell—with notes of rose and jasmine deepend with a twist of lemon, sprig of mint, and the verdant bite of freshly-plucked geranium.

3. Salted Muse Parfum

Woodsy and spicy perfume lovers will gravitate toward this warm parfum. A little bit masculine, it’s also great for your fall and winter rotation since it’s less floral and more earthy in nature. Olive tree accord, cedarwood, and sandalwood are highlighted in this bouquet, which is seasoned with a light dusting of spicy pink pepper and sea salt.
