Where Do Manchester United Go From Here Ahead Of Next Season?

With pressure firmly on the door of Erik Ten Hag, the Dutch manager did what was needed to be done – against all odds – and delivered another domestic trophy to Manchester United.

News broke and circulated among social media regarding the tentative sacking of Ten Hag after the FA Cup, regardless of the result, which aided further noise, animosity and division going into the biggest game of their season.

However, the players, staff and fans rallied together, all doing their part and delivering a famous win against their across-town rivals in what was their best performance of the 23/24 campaign.

Some fans have rightly questioned where this Manchester United has been all season, to which the manager will rebuttal that line of interrogation with absentees being a consistent thorn in their side this season.

Both sides are right, but where do Manchester United’s new ownership now settle on how to drive the club forward?

This summer, more than ever, there looks to be a manager merry-go-round with plenty of top European clubs looking, or being forced, into making a change.

Some clubs have had their hands dealt to them by the current man in place, whereas others, like Chelsea FC, are looking to strike on the front foot and make their move early by sacking Mauricio Pochettino and hiring Leicester City’s current boss, Enzo Maresca.

INEOS, who have taken control of Manchester United’s sporting department until they can complete a full takeover from the Glazer family, have an important decision to make regarding the future of the club.

They have seen, since being officially announced as new shareholders this year, a rather down-beaten, sorry-for-itself team that have, on the whole, failed to inspire. From failing to beat Burnley, Sheffield United and Bournemouth, fans of the Red Devils have been put through their paces in terms of frustration when watching their team.

Not only have Premier
Premier
League and Champions League results been an area of concern, it is also the style of play which encapsulates that on a weekly basis. If Ten Hag’s team were losing valiantly, but a clear structure was in place, then Manchester United fans would find it easier to get behind him and remain patient.

But that is not the case. Up until the FA Cup, which went against the norm of how the team have played, the Red Devils have been carved open in practically all of their matches. Too open and lacking the physicality most, if not all, other teams have in the Premier League, Ten Hag’s players have been exposed on a regular occurrence this season.

And so it is time for INEOS to make a decision, which is said to be on its way by the end of this week. They either need to go all in and allow Ten Hag the appropriate time, most likely at the very least another season, to get things right, or cut the cord now and find a coach who can fit within their newly-founded structure and environment.
