Whole Foods Just Launched a Berry Chantilly Iced Matcha Latte

  • Whole Foods’ new Berry Chantilly Iced Matcha Latte blends matcha with strawberry and almond-flavored syrups.
  • The drink is inspired by the grocer’s popular Berry Chantilly Cake, a vanilla-layered dessert featuring Chantilly cream and fresh berries, first created by a New Orleans employee over 20 years ago.
  • It’s available at select Whole Foods Market cafés and is part of a broader seasonal menu expansion that includes S’mores and Strawberry Mate Tea lattes.

Is it possible to have too much of a good thing? Whole Foods is certainly testing that limit, especially when it comes to a beloved vanilla cake.

Earlier this spring, Whole Foods Café introduced the Berry Chantilly Latte in select stores. Now, you can snag the Berry Chantilly Iced Matcha Latte at an in-store café near you, and if the internet is correct, this matcha latte could be its best Berry Chantilly iteration yet.

To try it for yourself, visit a Whole Foods in-store café and request an iced matcha latte with Berry Chantilly syrup. The result is a frothy matcha latte with flavors of vanilla, almond, berries, and creamy tea, which may just be the ideal summer sip. Some content creators also recommend adding extra scoops of matcha powder for a vivid green look and a strong, earthy flavor.

“The berry flavor is very subtle, but perfect,” another content creator affirms. “It’s a perfect balance of creamy, good matcha flavor, as well as the perfect level of sweetness.”

“We put a lot of heart into developing the original Berry Chantilly Latte, so it’s been exciting to see it take on new life with matcha, especially as matcha continues to trend upward. It’s no surprise these two flavors have found their way to each other,” Beth Kilpatrick, product development specialist for Whole Foods Market, told  Food & Wine. “The Berry Chantilly syrup brings a sweet strawberry profile with subtle almond undertones — a creamy, fruit-forward complement to earthy matcha.”

The Berry Chantilly syrup is poised to stick around until the beginning of July, as Whole Foods confirmed when the latte launched in early April. At the time, the company told F&W that they saw an “opportunity” to reimagine the beloved cake.

“The team experimented with a variety of syrups, including raspberry, vanilla, and even a mixed berry compote, throughout the development process, searching for the right balance of sweetness and depth,” Kilpatrick said.

Haven’t heard of the OG Berry Chantilly Cake? You’re in for a treat: While this berry-topped sheet cake is unassuming at first glance, its layers of airy Chantilly cream and vanilla cake have entranced Whole Foods shoppers. The dessert, launched more than two decades ago, was inspired by a New Orleans employee’s family recipe.

Its recent virality sparked the Amazon subsidiary to introduce a slew of sweetened (and eventually, viral) spinoffs, including a Non-Dairy Berry Chantilly ice cream and the latte. Other grocery chains, including regional favorite Publix, hopped on the bandwagon with their own berries-and-cream blends.

The internet has also graciously shared a trick for recreating this matcha latte at home for those who aren’t within driving distance of a Whole Foods Market. As Whole Foods revealed in its initial announcement, this fruity latte includes a pump of strawberry and almond syrup from 1883 — a brand that’s widely stocked on shelves and online retailers. Other enterprising shoppers also received confirmation on this syrup combo from their local baristas.

If sweet berry syrups aren’t your thing, Whole Foods is also rolling out two new lattes this summer: the S’mores Latte — a gourmand blend of chocolate, marshmallow, and a little smokiness — and a Strawberry Mate Tea Latte. Both will be available on in-store menus starting July 2.
