You’re due for a grocery haul, anyway — why not sweeten the weekly excursion with a TikTok-approved latte from the coffee bar? Luckily for any Whole Foods customers, the supermarket chain is bringing the fruity flavors of a fan-favorite layer cake to its beverage menu.

Whole Foods just transformed its widely beloved Berry Chantilly Cake into a limited-edition latte. The Berry Chantilly Latte, available hot or iced, is now being served in-store at any Whole Foods location with a coffee bar. The sweet drink is on tap until July 1, the brand confirms to Food & Wine.

“Since Berry Chantilly is a well-loved flavor with a loyal following in our stores, we saw an opportunity,” Whole Foods product development specialist Beth Kilpatrick says. “We wanted to incorporate the signature taste into a drinkable experience — one that would resonate with fans of the cake while offering something fresh and exciting on the menu.”

Development for this drink spanned several months and required numerous rounds of recipe testing, Kilpatrick explains. (The team went through eight Berry Chantilly Cakes to ensure the flavor profile was accurate.) After months of group tastings, the grocery chain’s product developers finally landed on the right ratio of syrups and sweetness.

“The team experimented with a variety of syrups, including raspberry, vanilla, and even a mixed berry compote, throughout the development process, searching for the right balance of sweetness and depth,” says Kilpatrick.

The product development specialist exclusively told Food & Wine, “After months of recipe development and numerous taste tests finding the perfect balance of sweet berries and almonds, we’re thrilled to bring the fan-favorite Berry Chantilly Cake to life in a new way in our stores. We hope our customers enjoy drinking it as much as we enjoyed creating it!”

At its in-store coffee bars, Whole Foods invites shoppers to “indulge in the flavor of creamy vanilla sweetened with berries and a whisper of almond,” a luxurious description that’s sure to convince anyone to try the drink. And if social media is any indication, customers are already eager to order it.

Reviews of the beverage online have been generally positive. Many say the latte is “worth the hype,” but others note that the berry flavor is strong when they take an initial sip. Some creative consumers are even crafting their own versions at home with vanilla and berry syrups, plus almond extract.

As for the muse behind this viral drink, the store’s classic Berry Chantilly Cake was launched roughly 20 years ago at a Whole Foods outpost in New Orleans. And if you’ve seen this cream-colored cake on your feed much more recently than that, you’re not alone — the layered confection has amassed a dedicated following in the past few years. Shoppers love the light, airy, and fruit-forward cake so much that they were up in arms last fall when Whole Foods tried to change the original recipe.

The cake itself is simple: Lightly sweetened, almond-flavored Chantilly cream frosting and fresh berries are sandwiched between layers of vanilla cake. For a fruity and effective finish, it’s topped with another layer of that fluffy frosting and a handful of strawberries, blueberries, blackberries, and raspberries. If you don’t want to buy an entire cake, you can also snag a single slice at select Whole Foods locations.

And if you pair that slice with the Berry Chantilly Latte, then it sounds like your next shopping run will be that much sweeter.
