Democratic Senator from New Jersey, Cory Booker, has been speaking on the senate floor since 7pm ET on Monday evening (March 31).

As of the time of this posting, at roughly 8:30 am ET, the 55-year-old politician is still speaking.

His decision to speak for this long as a form of protest comes just a few weeks after nine Democrats voted to move a Republican spending bill forward. What he’s doing is generally referred to as a “filibuster,” which usually is a tactic to “prolong debate and delay or prevent a vote on a bill, resolution, amendment, or other debatable question.”

Before taking the floor, Senator Booker explained his decision.

He posted on Facebook, “I’m heading to the Senate floor because Donald Trump and Elon Musk have shown a complete disregard for the rule of law, the Constitution, and the needs of the American people.”
