You did it! Our 2025 extreme weather coverage is funded  » Yale Climate Connections

In the lead-up to hurricane season, we asked you to donate in support of our coverage of hurricanes, heat waves, wildfires, and other life-threatening extreme weather events. We aimed to raise at least $10,000. And folks, you smashed that goal: Nearly 400 of you stepped up to help, contributing $37,000! 

What this means: 

• If a hurricane threatens our coasts this summer and fall, you can come here for the coverage you trust. 
• We’ll be here to help you understand what’s happening with FEMA, NOAA, and other agencies under the Trump administration. 
• We’ll be able to keep more people safe with our alerts to communities in the path of extreme weather — both in English and Spanish.  

The support from our audience is beyond our wildest dreams and gives us confidence that our reporting resonates with people in a media landscape increasingly wracked by disinformation. YOU built this, and it’s an honor to create a more activated, climate-aware world alongside our donors. 

And this is truly people-powered journalism: The median donation was $50, and 84% of donations were under $100. Our number of sustaining monthly supporters was multiplied by six, which helps us plan our coverage and retain superstar writers. We’re so grateful to everyone who has signed on as a sustaining donor. Will you join them?  

On a personal note, we’ve been reading your comments as they come in on Disqus, Bluesky, email, and postal mail, and we find them incredibly uplifting in this dark time. 

One commenter wrote: “So much insightful information has come from being a part of this group with the hopes of much more to come!”

Another wrote: “It costs money and time to create and maintain robust websites such as this one. It costs money and time to research and compile and write and edit and publish fresh content of the type needed to keep this blog viable and timely,” the person said. “Maybe think about skipping this month’s Twitch subscription or this week’s Thursday morning venti latte, and throw some money into the YCC pot. It’ll be greatly appreciated, and it’ll benefit everyone here, including me, and, most of all, you.” 

We hope that the success of this campaign also helps you remember that there are people all over the country and the world who believe in and support climate journalism. Our collective power is so important at this time. 

Donors during our May campaign came from 35 states, Puerto Rico, and the U.S. Virgin Islands. Outside of the U.S., our donors came from 10 countries, including Canada, the Bahamas, and Germany.
