Zoe Saldana and Janelle Monae are being honored!

The two entertainers were celebrated at the 2025 Costume Designers Guild Awards (CDGA) on Thursday evening (February 6) held at The Ebell in Los Angeles.

Hosted by Anyone But You actress Jackie Tohn, the annual CDGA celebrated excellence in film, television, short form costume design, and costume illustration.

Keep reading to find out more…During the event, Zoe, 46, received the Spotlight Award, which “honors an actor whose talent and career personify an enduring commitment to excellence, including a special awareness of the role and importance of Costume Design.”

“Thank you to the Costume Designers Guild for choosing me for this honor. Certain actors have specific items that dictate their character, or they approach their character by having a clear idea of what they wear; that is not me. I think that is why I rely so heavily on the work that you all do,” Zoe said in her acceptance speech. “I have always loved working with costume designers. I am a granddaughter and a great-granddaughter and a daughter of seamstresses. There’s no greater memory than seeing my great-grandmother, grandmother and my mother open up a bottle of champagne just to build a dress.”

Janelle, 39, was awarded the Vanguard Spotlight Award, which “celebrates a trailblazer who ignites the imaginations of cognoscenti and audiences alike. This accolade is a tribute to a performing artist who sets new standards in their sphere, not only for their outstanding achievements but also for their courage as a visionary that serves as an inspiration to us all.”

In their acceptance speech, Janelle said, “To be recognized by the Costume Designers Guild is an extreme honor and especially meaningful to me because my costumes and my fashion are tied to my family. It’s tied to people that mean the world to me. I’m a child of working-class parents who I watched put on their costumes every single day – I call them uniforms as well. I love the laborers who spend the hours, days, weeks, months making the costumes for us – so I got to dedicate this award to you.”

Other stars in attendance at the event included Mindy Kaling, Colman Domingo, Kathryn Hahn, Quinta Brunson, Kate Beckinsale, Gladiator II actress Connie Nielsen, and Anyone But You actress Justine Lupe.
