Perdue Chicken Nuggets, Tenders Recalled Nationwide

If you purchase frozen chicken nuggets for yourself (or your little ones) you may want to head to your freezer and check your stash. According to a recent announcement from the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS), Perdue Foods is recalling approximately 167,171 pounds of frozen, ready-to-eat chicken breast nugget and tender products because they may be contaminated with metal pieces.

Per the FSIS, the now-recalled chicken breast nugget and tender items were produced on March 23, 2024. Each recalled product bears the establishment number “P-33944” on the back of the package. The following items are subject to recall:

  • 22-oz. (1.38-lbs.) vacuum-sealed plastic packages containing “PERDUE Simply  Smart ORGANICS Breaded CHICKEN BREAST NUGGETS” with Best If Used By date of “03 23 25” represented on the back of the package.
  • 29-oz. (1.81-lbs.) vacuum-sealed plastic packages containing “PERDUE CHICKEN BREAST TENDERS with Best If Used By date of “03 23 25” represented on the back of the package.
  • 22-oz. (1.38-lbs.) vacuum-sealed packages containing “BUTCHERBOX Organic Chicken Breast Nuggets” with Best If Used By date of “03 23 25” represented on the back of the package.

The recalled chicken products were distributed nationwide, and sold at grocery stores including Target, Kroger, and more. The recalled chicken was also sold online directly to consumers via retailers and ButcherBox.

The FSIS noted that the issue that led to this recall was discovered after Perdue Foods received consumer complaints about metal wire pieces embedded in some of their chicken products. While there have been no reports yet of illness or injury related to this recall, the FSIS is “concerned that some product may be in consumers’ freezers.” Therefore, shoppers who have purchased the recalled items are being urged not to consume them. Instead, these products should be thrown away or returned to the place of purchase.

Consumers with questions about this recall can contact Perdue Consumer Care at 1-866-866-3703.
